Not sure why people keep saying this oatmeal boils over in their bowls. I have to use a microwave at college, and common sense, you have to pay attention for the whole one minute and 30 seconds it cooks to make sure it doesn’t explode. This definitely has a different texture than other brands but it such a great source of protein and fiber to start the day – or finish it, if you like breakfast for dinner – you really can’t beat it.

one thing I learned about any kind of “microwaveable” oatmeal..it isn’t. you just have to brave the stove top;)

Simple..cook it for a shorter time and watch it while it cooks so you can see if it starts to rise too high…

I have had this particular kind of hot cereal every morning since January 2009. I add to it a banana, some berries, cover it with soy milk and sprinkle with some granola for an extra crunch. Yummy, delicious goodness that keeps me full and helps me perform better as an ultra runner. I also love your TLC crackers, trail mix bars with almond & honey and Go Lean cereals. Thank you Kashi for making my healthy eating habbits so east to stick to.

Tried this for the first time this afternoon and it is truly awesome. I mashed one whole bannana into it with 1/4 cup of mixed nuts and it was amazing tasting. I can see using this product everyday. Very creamy, great vanilla flavor and smooth texture. Don’t confuse this with oatmeal cuz it’s not, the Kashi hearty honey cinnamon IS oatmeal and very good also, but this cearal has more protein and fiber and again..is awesome. You gotta try it.

I use a microwave at college for oatmeal too. If it explodes, it’s because for cooked it too long. It’s not rocket science

I tried this product for the first time tonight. After having read several of the comments, I thought that I might add my own. I used 2/3 of a cup of water and microwaved it for a little more than a minute…..and watched it very closely. It didn’t boil over but I could see that it would have if I hadn’t been paying attention. I found the texture to be just as stated by the Kashi CST. It is creamier and no where near as thick as a bowl of oatmeal. The texture is smooth and I found the flavor very nice. There was a hint of vanilla complimented by a natural nuttiness that appealed to me. No sickening sweet aftertaste was also a nice surprise. Don’t get me wrong, I like my oatmeal too and will try the Kashi oat products as well. All in all, I found this hot cereal to be a pleasant break from my daily bowl of oats and look forward to trying some other Kashi products.

This hot cereal boils over when I cook it in the microwave. I’ve tried lower heat, more frequent stirring, less time, differnt containers… No mater what I do it either isn’t cooked enough, or it overflows the bowl/mug and I end up with a HUGE mess in my microwave of scalding hot cereal to clean up and very little cereal left to eat.
I really like the taste and texture – it’s like a cross between cream of wheat and oatmeal. But the issue with it overlfowing the bowl makes it not worth it for me.

i tried this today, expecting a vanilla-flavored, oatmeal-textured bowl of hot cereal. I added probably 3/4 cups of water instead of 2/3, because i generally like my oatmeall a little thinner, but i ended up with a giant bowl of what seemed liked warmed up whey protein powder. I really did not get an oatmeal texture out of this at all. I don’t know if that’s what this product is supposed to be like or not, but i followed all of the directions except for the slight amount of additional water. Kind of disappoitned

Kashi Customer Service Team over 2 years agoHi Ctodd152. Creamy Truly Vanilla is actually a hot cereal and not oatmeal. The consistency is smoother like that of ground wheat farina cereal. If you are looking for oatmeal, we suggest checking out our Heart to Heart Instant Oatmeal. With 6 natural antioxidants, including green tea and grape seed extract, it helps support healthy arteries! Thanks for providing your feedback.

I was SO disappointed by this oatmeal. I usually eat the steel cut oats you buy in bulk but wanted to get out the door a little faster and stay healthy so I bought this. Little did I know I would need a MICROWAVE to make this. I do not use microwaves because: (1) I am poor and cannot afford one and (2)they leak nutrients from food and are dangerous to have in your house.
I was just trying to save time while being healthy. Clearly this was not the way to go.

Microwaves do not leech nutrients from food. In fact you will leech more out of vegetables from boiling them than you will from steaming them in the microwave.

I mix this with a bit of plain oats, some flaxmeal for even more omega 3, and a few tbsps of vanilla whey protein powder. Plain nonfat yogurt also gives it a nice thick but still creamy texture. i love this oatmeal and recommend it.

I have had this box of oatmeal for a couple months now..trying to eat it. I don’t really care for it plain. I tried adding banana to it..that was a little better. Today I added a tablespoon of peanut butter and wow..i’m shocked at how tasty it was! Now I can finally eat up this oatmeal that I have been dreading so much.

Probably not supposed to use 2 at time but I do. Found I had the perfect bowl to use so no explosion this time…lololol (and watched carefully) Added cinnamon, sliced banana and about a cup of unfrozen mixed berries. Not on a diet – just eating healthly – have lost 30lbs since beginning of year. Sometimes have this oatmeal for supper. If want less creamy – add more water or milk. I use liquid powdered skim milk after it’s all cooked. Yummy!

This is the perfect breakfast. I add 1 cup of blueberries and 1/2 plain greek yogurt to boost the protein. I don’t know what I’ll add once blueberries are no longer in season :(

This is great oatmeal. I need the extra protein so I make it with 2/3 cup of milk instead of water. Add a little splenda and cinnamon and it is great and it sticks with you all morning.

I was looking for the best, healthiest oatmeal when I saw the Kashi truly vanilla product. It turned out to be perfect! It tastes like oatmeal (to me, at least!), and the flaxseeds add a nice texture component to the mix. Three things I like best:
1. All natural ingredients
2. The perfect amount of sweetness
3. Nutritional balance, ie, high fiber, high protein, low sugar.
I’ve tried a few Kashi products, and I’ve always been pleasently surprised at how good tasting they are, as there’s a general perception about these kinds of products as being a taste compromise. So far, not the case here!Log in or join the community to reply to this comment. -
I loved it….I mixed a packet of the Truly Vanilla and the Honey Cinnamon with 1/2 banana and some sliced strawberries…yum!

I love this hot cereal too. I usu. buy the Truly Vanilla and lately have been adding banana to it, but I can eat it without just the same.
The microwave?: Yes, very tricky. I had the overflow experience once. Now I usually can go a full minute without taking it out. I then stir it and set the mike for another 30 seconds but at this time I watch it and stop it when I see it start to rise, I stir it and do it again until the 30 seconds are up. It’s work but it’s worth it. Oh – and I make sure I start with room temperature water. If your water is already hot, of course it will reach the overflow point sooner and your cereal won’t have a chance to truly cook.Log in or join the community to reply to this comment. -

I love oatmeal, Kashi and vanilla flavored foods so I expected this to be a winner for me. I’m just not crazy about this one in particular. I thought the flavor was very bland and only after the addition of cinnamon, some banana and a little brown sugar did this taste okay. I thought it had an almost burnt flavor also (and no, I didn’t overcook it) I didnt really like the texture either (it looks like pure powder right out of the packet) I always make my oatmeal with water so that might be the problem. I’ll try it again with vanilla almond milk and see if that helps any, but I think I’m just going to stick with the other oatmeal flavors.

This one looked pretty appealing when I bought it, and it sounded tasty as well…I love vanilla & Kashi so I expected it to be a winner. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as good as I’d hoped for. It just tasted very bland & processed, and only after adding some vanilla soy milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and some fruit did it taste OK…yet it still felt like something was missing. I’m usually not an instant-oatmeal person anyway; I prefer to start out with plain rolled oats or oat bran & prepare it accordingly because I think it tastes better that way. So I think I’ll just stick to that for now. But since I still have a whole box left of these, I’m sure I’ll eat them on occasion if I run out of oatmeal or other stuff.
