To help some of my fellow kashi lovers. Annatto Coloring found GoLean Cereal(original). Is not another name for MSG. It is a natural food coloring found in South America. It is used in lots of South American cooking. Please everyone, google the ingredents before jumping to conclusions. Go Kashi!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really dissapointing Kashi. Hadn’t really read the label thoroughly after switching from Autumn Wheat back to Go Lean and Go Lean Crunch…however after experiencing heart palpitations, I now know why. Anatto Coloring is actually another name for MSG…so GMO’s aside, that alone is enough to get me to stop buying. Please be more responsible Kashi. Do we really need to risk health for the sake of coloring?

    1. 48_020_20
      Ashley_C about 19 hours ago

Hi, minnegirl. Annatto is a natural yellow-orange to red color derived from seeds of the achiote trees of tropical regions of the Americas and not another name for monosodium glutamate (MSG). We do not use monosodium glutamate in any of our foods. If you have further questions, please feel free to give us a call at 1-877-7GRAINS. Thanks for posting.

Bought my first box of GoLean Crunch today. I opened the box when I got home and found that it was filled with General Mills BooBerry cereal instead. I shopped at the Stop and Shop in Methuen, MA,and they do not carry that particular cereal. I find this very odd. Has anybody else had this experience?

    1. 48_vienna_146

Kashi is owned by Kellog, which I think is one of the biggest competitors of General Millls, so I would be very surprised if Kashi shared any sort of manufacturing, packaging, or distribution facilities with General Mills. I don’t know how such a mix-up could have possibly happened, but I have to admit it would be pretty funny to open a box of Kashi cereal and find BooBerry instead. Maybe a supermarket employee switched the cereals as a practical joke?

I kinda find it funny that further down on this thread people are actually against Kashi?I mean what is that? Kashi is one of the healthiest cereals out there, but we all have our knit pickers that have to have everything perfect.(well nothing is perfect) I happen to love Kashi, i started eating it 5 months ago, a bowl in the morning and my snack @ night. Ironically i have lost 34 lbs (along with exercise and other proper eating, Kashi still helped ALOT)(and yeah i can prove that) so as for insolible fiber and gmo’s . well lets just say, the cereal is doing what its supposed to over 100%. every morning when i go to the bathroom ,its not just once it ranges from 3-5 times that morning, and no more through the day. I have gotten so much energy, and i feel so healthy. Kashi has helped me so much. So i suppose if you dont like it, well dont eat it. But just because it has something that dont agree with your digestive system , dosent by any means, mean it dont help others. So i pass on by as i say…GO KASHI, CONTINUE THE AWESOME WORK YOU ARE AMAZING!!!! Peace

This cereal is also low-glycemic, as are the other Kashi Go-Lean Cereals. I also have to commend Kashi for not fortifying this cereal with Folic Acid. I can’t have Folic Acid, so I was so happy to find this cereal. It tastes amazing, I don’t eat sugar so the light sweetness is as close to a Krispy Kreme as it gets for me. I savor every bite. Ashley_C 2 months ago

Hi, Butterfly568. It’s true that this food contains 5 grams of insoluble fiber per serving, but we view this a positive attribute of this cereal. Insoluble fiber, as its name suggests, does not dissolve in water. In plants this group of fibers (cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin) gives structure to plant cell walls. In humans, insoluble fiber is important for proper bowel function by making sure nothing stays in your body for long. Because it keeps everything moving, it may help protect you from certain cancers. We hope you will continue to enjoy our foods and the natural nutrition they provide.

    1. 48_020_20
      Ashley_C 2 months ago

Hi, Butterfly568. When you’re not used to eating a lot of fiber, digestive upset such as flatulence and diarrhea can occur. Adding too much fiber too quickly can cause abdominal bloating and intestinal gas. It is best to add fiber to your diet gradually over a period of a couple of weeks. Remaining thoroughly hydrated is suggested as well. We hope this information is helpful. If you have more questions or concerns, you may wish to speak with your healthcare professional about incorporating more fiber into your diet.

    2. User_48
      NoMoGMO 2 months ago

Maybe you’re cramping because of the GMOs in this cereal. GMOs are banned in Europe for a reason. Soy, Corn and Canolla are GMO in the USA and Kashi uses these GMOs to make their “healthy” cereals. When more of us demand safe foods, companies like Kashi will have to listen.

In the past few months I noticed that I was EXTREMELY fatigued after breakfast—not making the connection yet…then about a month ago I started feeling EXTREMELY dizzy with rapid palpitations through out the day. After ruling out heart problems—EKG, echo cardiogram and a few visits w/ cardiologist, I have finally figured out what iist—-the HIDDEN MSG in Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal. I was really upset once I figured this out and sure enough now I have the same reaction any time I consume anything w/ MSG or similar pdt. I think it is COMPLETELY misleading that Kashi claims to be a health cereal and yet resorts to such means to trick people into eating their pdt. The problem is that Soy Protein isolate and Soy Protein Concentrate are Factory made. They are made by heavily processing Soy. In this process makers of Soy Protein Isolate and Soy Protein Concentrate add MSG to the final product. Is there any assurance that your producers DO NOT add MSG to their Soy Protein Concentrate or Soy Protein Isolate?

Seems like I’m not the only one, reading from previous posters and what I have researched online. Something in this cereal, either the high fiber content or the inulin, causes really bad gas for me. I was wondering the other day when I could not hold it in what was causing all the gas because I don’t drink milk, which is the only thing that causes me to pass gas, and I haven’t touched anything containing milk. I ate a bowl of this cereal today, and BOOM. I will not buy this cereal anymore. I will stick with Honey Sunshine from now on.

GoLean Crunch with milk has been my favorite breakfast for three years. I have it almost every day, and never get sick of it. Until now. I think you changed the cereal a lot, and upped the sugar (or “evaporated cane juice crystals”-aka SUGAR). Somehow the clusters have a sickly sugary shiny coating now. Also, it’s ten more calories per serving than it used to be. I don’t have the old nutrition facts to compare, but I assume these are all sugar. While I appreciate that the sugar may be produced in a healthier manner than is most common in cane sugar, I think it’s a problematic thing to add so liberally to a product marketed as healthy. (you know…tooth decay, diabetes, et al). I don’t even care that much, because it still has good protein and fiber content, but I can’t stand how sweet it is now. Bring back my favorite cereal!!!

This cereal tastes great even dry (as a snack), but I ended up throwing the remaining cereal in the trash because because it gave me severe cramping, bloating, and abdominal pain. I’ve tried it on more than one occasion with the same symptoms. Which ingredient is it that causes this reaction?

    1. User_48
      glgengel 3 months ago

JessicaLynn, it’s most likely the chickory root fiber, commonly known as inulin. It is used as a dietary fiber in the food industry because it is easy to use and it packs a lot of fiber into a small percentage of product weight. Some people are very sensitive to it and it sounds like you may be one. Inulin is also found in other grain-based foods like snack and energy bars. It may be useful for you to look for inulin/chicory root in the ingredient statements of foods you consider buying. You may recognize that there are other foods giving you the same reaction that also contain this ingredient. Persons with a sensitivity to inulin tend to also be sensitive to “sugar-alcohols,” ingredients that give a sweet taste but no calories. Those ingredients tend to end in “ol,” like sorbitol and maltitol, etc. Glycerine is also a sugar-alcohol that is used in fruits and some cereals. Being on the lookout for these ingredients will allow you to manage your diet in a way that your body will thank you for. Good luck!

Thank you for this thread, I have been having the same troubles and since the waffles are out of production I turned to this – my fave cereal and have been having digestive issues ever since! I will have to find something else! Thanks again!

Thanks Glgengel, for the info about inulin and sorbitol….. apparently I am one of those sensitive people and have been trying to figure out what my problem is with the GoLean crunch….I love the taste and nutrition value but now understand why it doesn’t agree with me…

I love this cereal, but when I first pour it, it feels like I’m eating uncooked dry pasta… although it softens up a little once it has been sitting in the milk for a few minutes. It’s delicious with some banana slices and a splash of vanilla soy milk :D

I was like that at first also, I then began to mix it with my other Kashi cereal flakes and it is now better. I think your body needs to adjust to the fiber content. The whole grains and flax tend to bother people with IBS, but they say that when you have IBS to chose these types of food. I have GI troubles and at first when discovered, I went crazy upping my fiber, that was a mistake. Drink lots of water when you eat such a “cleansing” ceral.

This is the absolute BEST-TASTING cereal I have ever eaten. However, I find that I can no longer eat it, because it gives me SEVERE abdominal cramping and gas :( Is there any way that the wonderful people at Kashi can make GoLEAN Crunch! without the soy protein?

I’ve experienced this uncomforable feeling also, and it took me a while to realize that it was from the cereal. I wish they could fix crunch so it didn’t cause so much pain! I eat it when I know I’m going to be home for a while… it’s nice to know I’m not alone with my body’s reaction to this cereal. But I’m going to keep eating it because I love it soo much! :D It’s great to snack on, and I put it on yogurt and eat it by itself. I bring the single serving pods with me to work and just eat a little at a time…

As a person in contact with the food industry, my experience may prove useful. As noted above, soy is probably not the digestive culprit unless you are allergic to soy. Most likely, it’s the chickory root fiber, commonly known as inulin. Good luck!

This is the best cereal! It keeps me full all morning and gives me plenty of energy. Plus it tastes great! I am now able to avoid chips and other unhealthy snacks because I get the crunchiness I crave from Golean crunch.

I had this this morning for the first and probably the last time. This has caused the worst digestive upset I have had for a long time. they really should select soluble fiber sources that are a lot more friendly than the chicory. To be effective they have to use high doses – this is going to be a long day!!!
