Don't sell yourself short

Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

If reduce, recycle, reuse is your mantra, then take your game to the next level when it comes to selling items you no longer need. Instead of saving up for your next (marginally profitable and exhausting) sidewalk sale, for instance, start tapping eBay and Craigslist for more targeted sales of big-ticket and specialized items. Make sure your item has all its parts, is clean, and in good condition. Remove personal information from electronic and other items. Today, challenge yourself to be a little more entrepreneurial when it comes to passing on the good stuff — it just might pay off for you!

If you don’t want to go through the hassle of having a yard sale or selling online, do what I do. Each year I donate several boxes of new or gently-used items/clothing to one of the local non-profit organizations. Don’t forget — you can also take a tax deduction each year for your donations (read the IRS guidelines very carefully).

I just sold my daughter’s barely-used swing on Craigslist and made friends with the buyer. Our daughters are about 6 months apart so I now have a contact to pass down items to.
