Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

French fries are the downfall of many aspiring healthy eaters. Next time your salty tooth tempts you, try baking up a batch of homemade French fries that are just as delicious but significantly leaner than the standard processed variety. Today, challenge yourself to tweak your treat by:

• Slicing up your own potatoes or sweet potatoes.

• Brushing them lightly with olive oil.

• Roasting for 30 minutes.

• Sprinkling with natural seasonings in lieu of excess salt.

My mom,the original Mother Earth, says to soak them in ice cold water, then pat dry before cooking and they will crisp up on the outside, stay soft on the inside.

These are yummy with just a spritz of olive oil and a generous sprinkling of garlic & herb Mrs. Dash before being placed in the oven. They are so much better then the greasy fries from any fast food joint.

I sure am a sucker for some french fries. I have baked my own cut potatoes in the past, however my boyfriend was not as satisfied as I was. I will take this challenge to better my health.

I haven’t had a chance to prepare my own baked fries as of starting the challenge but when my boyfriend and I went out to eat and he got a side of fries and asked if I wanted any I declined the offer. YAY for me! ;)

This is the only way to eat fries! They are fabulous with Almond Oil, Mrs. Dash Original Seasoning, and Granulated Garlic :)

Homemade garlic fries (even better with fresh garlic I bet) sound super tasty! Great suggestion!!

One brand, Alexia, makes very healthy, frozen fries in a variety of shapes and types, such as waffle and potato wedges with olive oil and rosemary. My favorite is the sweet potato kind—best part is, they are all very healthy and made with canola oil and baked.

Try using sweet potatoes for some added vitamin A and fiber benefits!
