Learn your history
Oral histories are a family gift that will last a lifetime — and more. You can record family members’ treasured memories by sitting down with elders — or anyone — and using a voice recorder that saves files in MP3 format. Later, download the files to your computer, burn the files onto a CD, design a CD cover, and — voila! — a gift that will delight kinfolks for generations to come. Today, challenge yourself to set a date with the most senior of your relatives.

as i am the elder in my family, i have been compiling the immigration history of my German maternal grandparents as well as gathering the family photos that i will use to document my grandson’s heritage with. The rest will be to recount as best i can, the wealth of childhood stories recounted to my sister and i by my grandmother conferring with my sister and perhaps a cousin or 2 on recollections and facts
