Strike while the oven is hot
Challenge yourself to make your oven do double duty the next time you bake, and save energy in the process. Some ideas:
• If you’re baking a casserole for dinner, put in a potato that you can eat for lunch the next day.
• Rather than bake batches of cookies in sequence, arrange your oven racks so that you can bake three trays at once.
• Once you turn off the oven after cooking your entree, use the residual heat to gently warm tortillas or rolls.

I’ve been baking lots of my own bread lately, and now I plan ahead and throw a few sweet potatoes in with the loaves :)

I am big on saving energy and money. So when I bake, I like to do it all at once or as much as possible. So if I am making mashed potatoes, I make enough to use later in the week for a casserole, or I bake cookies at the same time I am baking my bread, so I don’t have to use the oven twice and I make double my bread recipe so I can store some and don’t have to bake it as often. Yeah, sometimes it created more work, but it’s only more work one day a week, rather than everyday.
