Squirrely spice

Squirrels are cute in theory, but they can be highly disruptive to a garden. Today, challenge yourself to solve your squirrel infestation problem by sprinkling cayenne pepper in the soil surrounding the plants in question. (Squirrels are known to dislike the spice, and it doesn’t hurt the plants.) Tip: Some swear by the added power of garlic, and will add granulated garlic to their cayenne mix.

living in rural florida, squirrels are a major problem with all my plants, my garden and my bird feeders. cayenne pepper only lasts a day or two. i mixed it with peanut butter and crisco and smeared it on the bird feeder poles and the feeders themselves. worked for a while. now, when i brush the dogs and cat, i clean the brushes and put the hair around my plants. i also grow thai peppers and dry some of them, crush them and spread them.

We also use paprika for our rodent problems. We live in the hill of Tennessee so squirrels aren’t that common. We more often see deer. Human hair works best for them. The other problem we have are insects. The spices work for some of them. That is actually what we use it most for.
