Were those stacking dolls really made in Minsk? What about the Navajo blanket you scored on a trip to the Southwest? One way to support regional artisans is to make sure “local” wares really are. Ask questions, source materials – in other words, satisfy yourself that the item you’re interested in really is what the seller claims. Today, challenge yourself to approach shopping on the road more mindfully.

if you find local places..like bakerys, festivals or craft malls…you’ll find local ‘goodies’.
My mom always bought me a spoon when we traveled..yes made in China..but had the location on it. I didn’t get ‘junk’..just spoons! Also…check online prior to traveling for local wares…many of the local co-ops might also have great local gifts and goodies

This is such an awesome thing to do when you travel. I am sure many of us have been to far off places and thought we bought something “local” and then get home and see it was made in China or somewhere else. A great site to check out is www.etsy.com for handmade gifts. They have a section that supports your local area.
