Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

Often, when we find ourselves in unfamiliar places, we seek out our familiar standbys for comfort—for food, for coffee, for lodging. Branch out! Patronizing local businesses when you’re traveling gives you a deeper appreciation and awareness of the local culture. And it contributes to the local economy. Today, challenge yourself to research locals-only establishments for your next trip, or at least commit to visiting several when you arrive.

I just got back from Taiwan. It was my first time traveling to an Asian country. I had a great time eating all the local fruits, in fact the fruit was all I ate!

I am from Wisconsin…how exciting…you know it has the World’s Largest Six Pack of beer (in my hometown). We just moved to Joshua Tree and although it is extremely hot, there are so many beautiful things to see and places to go off-roading. We love our new local hot spots.

I’m going to Wisconsin in two weeks, and I can’t wait to taste all of the local goods – especially dairy and beer! Of course, balanced with freshly-grown produce and farm-raised meat.

I am going to PEI in 1.5 weeks and cannot wait to try all the local food. Of course they are known for potatoes but they also have a huge local food movement. My favorite are the Raspberry Point oysters. Nothing better than slurping down an oyster that was in the ocean less than 12 hours ago.
