Try yoga (or a new yoga style)
Yoga has been shown to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility, and relax the mind. (For those of you who already practice regularly, these benefits are clear.)
During the next week — if you’re a newbie to yoga — challenge yourself to sign-up for your first yoga class to find out what you’ve been missing. If you’re already a yoga veteran, how about challenging yourself to branch out from your regular practice and try a new yoga style?
Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine.
(We’ve given you 30 days for this Challenge to find a class and attend it. When you log your progress, you only need to log as many – or as few – days as you think are applicable.)

Yoga has been a great pain reliever for me!!
I really enjoy yoga…after it’s done. It’s just getting the motivation to get up and do it that I struggle with.
We all do some form of yoga, whether it’s holding a stretching position in bed or just taking a deep breath and reaching for your toes. I’m challenging myself to do more “floor” exercises, like slow stretching and rolling on my shoulders and neck. I’m a runner so sitting on my bottom and stretching out after a run is wonderful. Get the blood flowing!
I have been doing Yoga for awhile, but dropped out of the habit. Now is the perfect time to get back into the swing of things and get going.
I started doing yoga and then stopped and started boxing (quite a switch, but I needed some more movement.) Anyway, I re-started my yoga practice, and it’s greatly improved my balance which even helps with the boxing.
After finding out that I have degenerative 5-6 disks in my back (this I found out after my hands and arms kept falling asleep) my doctor sent me to a physical therapist. Two to three times a week. At $25 each co-pay. My friend had been doing yoga for years and is a certified teacher, but had not been doing classes for awhile, decided to rent a space and once a week teach her friends yoga. After two weeks of her class (only on Sat. mornings) my arms quit falling asleep and the knot under my shoulder blade had deminished. I quit physical therapy and only did my yoga practice. Even ONCE a week can make a huge difference in your life. Why not a little daily?
have never tried yoga but i always wanted to.i’m sure with a proper coach i would fare well.
doing yoga has worked for me,i didnt think it would help my back pain but it does
i didnt complete this within the 7 days- but i have joined a class, now two months later and love it! :)
I completed an Iyengar yoga class with a little struggle but I stuck with it. It finally “clicked” — how to pay attention to alignment and posture, how the smallest change in alighment can have amazing results.
I’ve been thinking about this challenge for months now and I’m finally ready to do it! I invited a friend to an Ashtanga class this weekend. I can’t back out now. I’ll let you know how it goes….
I did it! On Saturday morning—even though I didn’t feel like it—I went downtown and walked into the yoga studio alone. I was intimidated because it seemed like everyone knew each other, and I didn’t have anyone to talk to. It was also difficult to keep up at times during the class, even though it was beginning/intermediate. But I stuck with it, and I’m so glad I did! I left the class energized and feeling very brave too. I’m going back tomorrow morning at 7am because I’m determined to make this a part of my life.
