Be calculating
Ever thought of taking a calculator with you to the grocery store? You can use it to keep track of costs, number-crunch what you need from bulk products, and factor nutrition info. It won’t take much time, and you’ll leave with a much more refined food selection (as well as a potentially healthier one). The next time you go to a grocery store, challenge yourself to take along your handy pocket calculator and do the numbers.

I have found shopping w/ a list and calculating before works real good. That way you limit buying thing you do not need and can match coupons. I do mine on an excel spreadsheet. If I do not know the price of something I can usually look it up at the store’s web site, but the most part I work off the weekly flyoers.
I usually try to keep track in my mind the tally as I go, however I usually veer off of my list and catch myself buying to many impulse items.
Imagine my surprise, when I got home from grocery shopping this morning, and when I logged in, here is the challenge!! I take a calculator every time I go shopping! We track out grocery spending, hitting different stores in an effort to save money.
i buy kashi every week i love it
I’ve tried this before and half way through my shopping trip hit the clear button. I was so frustrated that I never did it again but I’m going to the store today, so I might as well give it another try!
My local grocery store has a “self-checkout” scanner that you can carry around and scan & bag your own items. The amount of people putting their self-scanned items into reusable bags nearly outnumbered the people food shopping conventionally! It also lets me browse for coupons and keeps track of my running total. I shop with a list and cash, and only buy non-fresh items. For my fruit & veg I hit up the local veg store or the farmer’s stand at the end of my city block.
