Be needy, not greedy
We’ve all indulged in that scourge of budgeters everywhere: sport shopping. You know what we mean – the act of buying something you want that you really don’t need. Unfortunately, the temporary good cheer sport shopping lends doesn’t last. Today, challenge yourself to hit the register only after making a conscious assessment that you really, truly need an item. Some questions to ask yourself:
• Is this something I could borrow?
• Is there a local alternative?
• Is the item (and packaging) recyclable?

I Do this every time i grocery shop and everyone should. As well as never going to the store hungry.
I try to get things we NEED and not just want. its hard when i go shopping with my children. they like to get things and bat their eyes at their dad.
I see a lot of young adults doing this. They do the “I gotta have it NOW” thing. They don’t think it through and end up going in a lot of debt (and waste a lot) to get the newest, coolest thing out. I actually do all of the things above because we just don’t have the money to be wasteful or buy anything on impulse. In my opinion, everything I buy can be recycled in on form or another because I use freecycle where I give away my unwanted items to someone who can use them.
I have a problem, I like to try new items AND they don’t measure up to the ads. So they get tossed. I will read the discriptions in detail BEFORE I buy from now on.
I will start today!! I too do this at the grocery store!
I even do this at the grocery store—I buy things that end up in my garbage, just because they looked good at the time. I have to shop today, so I’ll see how I fare.
