Recycle your Christmas tree
Most of us are a little melancholy when it’s time to take down the tree, but it’s a lot sadder to contribute to a landfill. Instead of tossing it on the sidewalk, try recycling it into mulch or chippings. And call your city services: Some towns even use them for shoreline stabilization and erosion prevention. Today, find a tree recycling program in your area and plan on using it!

I gave mine to the city who mulches it to a big pile to use elsewhere

I’ve been recycling my tree for years. When it’s time to take the tree down, I place it in the backyard. It makes great shelter for birds and small animals, is a great place to hang suet from, and in the spring can be chopped for firewood for those fall get togethers. I never use tinsel because it is non-biodegradable and can be harmful if animals get ahold of it.
