Have fitness, will travel
Whether you have a gym membership that travels or need to find other ways to work out on family visits, doing some research ahead of time ensures you have the right gear and, more importantly, a reason to keep up your routine when you go away. Today, challenge yourself to come up with a master plan for getting exercise during your next wintertime journey. Some ideas: • See if your gym has a partnership with one in your destination city. • Get maps of your destination and plot walking, biking or jogging routes. • Locate malls or other large indoor places where you can walk briskly in bad weather. • Plan activities for the whole family to enjoy together. _Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine._

Recently, mt mom shattered a leg while on vacation trip. This required an impromptu “vacation” for me in a city I had never been. I used the phone book to look up gyms in the city & made a phone call to one within walking distance of our hotel. When I explained my situation, they kindly gave me a free pass to work out during time I was there. Most gyms do give free trial memberships so the next time I travel I will ask about a pass. Even if it is not free, it may be at a discounted price. It never hurts to ask!

Tomorrow is supposed to be pretty nice and I need to get those last leaves raked up! It’s good exercise and the fresh air is a bonus. Our dog also benefits with an extra walk or two on those nice days. Today’s fun activity was helping a friend put up her Christmas tree and outdoor decorations which meant many trips up and down the basement stairs.

When at home if I can’t get out an walk because of the cold, I use a treadmill or my new WII FIT dvd which gets me moving. But when out of town, I find a mall to walk and shop in until I’m either out of money or exhausted. It’s all about enjoying what you’re doing and getting the exercise in “on the side” that counts.

I travel to a very small town in northern Minnesota for the holidays. Walking outside simply is not an option, and the town is tiny – no reliable gym access. So – I take my yoga practice with me, and do basic yoga, crunches, pushups, and jumping jacks every day. It’s not as “robust” a workout as a I normally get, but for a few days it is manageable – and better than nothing! :)

i just got back from a trip to Portland, OR, and we walked EVERYWHERE! Not only that, I had also made it a point to work out 4-5 days a week like I do at home.

I belong to a gym here in Buffalo. But I am going to Ottawa, Canada next weekend for Canada’s National Winterlude festival. I’m taking my ice skates, and we are skating the canal every day to get to and fro the hotel to all the wonderful activities…it’s about 5 miles for us daily. Phew! Glad I have good skates! :)

Planning a trip to Fl and will need to find a treadmill to use. Have asked my daughter and friend to ask someone to use theirs or I’ll find a gym with a one week membership. I can carry my core ball in my luggage. I may just give my daughter one as a present and use hers, lol.

I try to use the gyms provided by hotels…. which is perfect during bad weather days.
