Tighten your belt…for real
In lean economic times we tend to fall back on comfortable – and sometimes unhealthy – habits to soothe ourselves. Too much reliance on high-fat, low-nutrient comfort foods, for instance, can offer a fleeting sense of reward. Today, challenge yourself to evaluate any less-than=healthy habits you may be falling into and find alternate ways to feel good in the moment.

I have been really watching everything that I eat and even write it all down in a book daily. This is something a good friend told me to do about 2 yrs ago when I decided to start my healthy eating lifestyle. To date I have lost about 80 lbs and feel so much better about myself. I also work out 3-5 days a week as my time permits. It is funny how you can get addicted to working out and eating healthy. Fresh fruits and vegetables are regular staples for meals and snacks and I love them all.

Walking, yoga, eating smaller portions, cutting back on sweets (especially chocolate and cookies), and paying attention to each day’s food and exercise are what I hope will get me to that elusive flat belly!

I am just starting out and started by eating healthier breakfast items and eating breakfast instead of skipping it and over eating later. I have decided to start making more of my foods instead of heading for the processed pre packaged items. I am a big woman with over 150lbs to lose and I will learn to set small goals and stick to it to feel better and be in better health.

I have put away the junky snack foods and have purchased fruits. When I’m on the computer and in a snacky kinda mood, the fruit gives me the sweet flavors I crave and its healthier! I’ve also figured out that beating myself up for little slips is not helping me. I allow myself a little wiggle room without the guilt.

I will feed my family as organically as possible. My son probably has ADHD and we’ve cut out food dyes and noticed a difference. This challenge to start our garden (seeds indoors as needed this month, planning) will help us immensely. We have bartered a horse trailer for a buckling and three doe goats and are getting a 1 yr old milker next month. We started a compost heap. We joined a local co-op of farmers to obtain produce throughout the summer. I’m excited and hoping that the food budget will not go up (organics can be expensive) and maybe even go down. Any suggestions? I’m new! Thank you!
