Amazing what a little de-cluttering will do to your mood!

I work as a college instructor so stacks of books and papers are my life. I couldn’t clean off my desk but I organized my books and made neat piles of categorized papers. Then I took a deep breath. Nice.

OK, my large bedroom is also my computing and reading room. Its become a mess. I’m going to transform it in 24 hours. Here goes!

I work from home and often I do find myself stressed about my workspace. Hopefully this will help!

‘Spent two long hours on an excavation into my main desk drawer (it was baaaaad). ‘Recycled/relocated 80% of contents, then put the remaining 20% in little shallow cardboard boxes to organize. Whew … what a relief!

I am one of those neat freaks anyway but just changing positions of items on the desk made a huge impact for me. It’s important to be surrounded by things that make you happy and sometimes to remind you of why you work so hard.

I’m a lean enterprise engineer so my work area is already well organized/decluttered, but adding a small water feature and putting on classical music after a hectic meeting schedule is a great pick-me-up!

I have a very stressful job somedays working as a material handler in a factory. It is nice to be able to just stop and let the natural flow of things go, instead of pushing it too hard.

I work in a busy labor/delivery unit so this is impossible! So many times it is assumed that the world works in a cubicle.

Sue,

Music is such a personal thing. Although I’d love to make some recommendations, it’s really difficult to suggest something without knowing you—especially because what may be soothing for one person (like the sound of the ocean or a CD by Kenny G) can actually be quite distressing for someone else.

This is the best Idea! I recently rearranged a special space that is designated only for my soothing office room. Can’t go wrong putting yourself first for once!

I work in a small pool store. It is important for me to at least have the store look presentable. On a weekly basis, I like to clean the front counter, the glass door, and the other parts of the store that customers are most often. It doesn’t take long to do a quick dusting. Sometimes there are items out of place or papers placed everywhere. It makes me feel better when the shelves are orderly and people don’t have to look at a big pile of mess.

I’ve just created a space in my closet all for myself called my “Zen Space”.

suzcomptime- my favorite relaxing cd is ABoneCroneDrone by Sheila Chandra. It is hard to find but I LOVE IT. It never fails to chill me out. Never.
I also, at work, often listen to anything by Nick Drake. That man almost invented mellow. But not too mellow so as to put me to sleep. Just a nice mellow mood. Perfect work music for me.

Today I will remove all the junk that is cluttering up my desk and making me feel chaotic. I will have a clean, fresh, inspiring but not distracting space.

I really committed to this! I went out last night and got a little plant to put in my desk (in the back left corner, which seemingly is the appropriate feng shui place for it, and I wanted it there anyway… coincidence?) and found a small bamboo box (to bring more natural materials into this synthetic space) that held tea, but I emptied that out to drink later and it is the perfect size for my CDs that were just sitting on my desk looking ugly and unorganized. Now I have the bright green, the warm wood, and a little set of windchimes that tingle when I open and close my doors. It is a MUCH more serene space. I am SO pleased.
