Automate dishwashing

Doing the “washing up” by hand may be the good, old-fashioned way – but it also wastes energy. The newer ENERGY STAR-qualified dishwashers use half as much energy as washing by hand – and 5,000 less gallons of water per year. Clearly, energy and cost savings add up quick with these devices (which, incidentally, also reduce noise compared to older models). If you have an older model dishwasher (or no dishwasher at all), challenge yourself today to do a little research about how much it’d cost to replace your current dishwashing system. Some helpful hints: • Look for rebates on ENERGY STAR products. • Calculate how long it will take you to recoup the price of a machine with cost savings over older methods. • Set up a payment or savings plan to finance the purchase.

I have an energy star portable dishwasher and I love it. You don’t have to rinse dishes, just scrape off the big pices. I aslo learned that usuing the normal cycle with no drying, shortened the time and energy use. They are hard to find, but they are out there and well worth the price. Try bargaining, I always do and get the greatest discounts or free thing. My motto is: All you have to do is ask.

We just installed a new energy-efficient dishwasher. Much better than our old leaky one that came with the house.

When my husband and I first moved into our home we actually used the disheasher as cabinet space, since we are seriously lacking in that area. We also believed that washing our dishes by hand was more conservative. A few years ago I read several articles about how washing a full load of dishes in the dishwasher uses less energy and water than washing dishes by hand. We quickly made the change and use the dishwasher for it’s intended purpose. Our counters are more cluttered, but we feel better about doing our part to go green, no matter how small.

I have no dishwasher and no budget for one rifht now. What I do is I wet the dishes first and then turn off the water. Once the water is off then I actually soap the dishes. Once that is done I turn the water back on and rinse them. I am not sure how much that saves but I bet it saves a lot including doing it with a dishwasher.

Just a single guy here and I do not dirty many dishes,
There is a new dishwasher in the house but it takes me like a week and half to fill it.
I feel I am pretty conservative when I was by hand.

I live in an apartment with no dishwasher, so instead of trying to figure out how to purchase a washer… I will research how to minimize my water use during dish washing. Anyone have any good ideas?
