Respect your sleep space
The National Sleep Foundation says stimulating devices like TVs, computers and workstations have no business in our sleeping quarters. And where kids are concerned, the American Academy of Pediatrics backs them up, calling healthy bedrooms a “media-free zone.” Today, challenge yourself to protect your family’s sleep by removing all electronic devices from your bedrooms and relocating them to a neutral part of the house.

Yep-I’m already “media-free” in my room and plan on doing the same for the kid’s pronto. I’ll replace the electronic entertainment with reading. :) I must agree that removing the distractions helps me wind down more effectively. Quiet is the lost element in our lives today….sometimes keeping the TV off is the best therapy.

I have to opt out of challenging myself on this one. I can remove my computer, and my tv/xbox, but I’d need an ipod or radio. I can’t sleep in silence. I’ve tried, but if I’m laying there in silence my mind tends to wander and I start thinking, which leads to me staying up much later than I’d ever want to. So I usually have iTunes up listening to ocean waves or the rain forest. If not that, then I’ll pop a DVD in and turn the volume down to the point where I think the TV is on downstairs.

We have a tv in the bedroom, but it is never watched at bedtime.
