Dim the lights
Low lighting uses less energy and prolongs the bulb’s lifespan. You can save on energy expenses by installing and using dimmer switches whenever possible. Today, challenge yourself to add installing a dimmer on one light fixture to your to-do list. Then schedule a date to do it.

All the suggestions are cool. I recently learned that just having something plugged in that is not in use can generate higher electrical useage. In the day and age where utility bills
keep increasing it is so important for us all to use different approaches to benefit us and the environment as a whole. Dimmers are nice especially if you have a beautiful painting you like to enjoy with that effect. All the little things add up like fridge settings that may be set way too cold etc. -

I’m using cfls also – and turning them off when not in the room. Uses less electric power than dimmed lights

I use cfls in all my light fixtures, but no dimmers so my family and I became very aware of the number of lights on in each room. We shut them off.

Also helps that there are now dimmable compact fluor. bulbs as well. Although you need to turn them up high few a few minutes before dimming them.
