Take up fitness geography

When it comes to exercise, every region has its benefits and challenges. Finding out what your area has to offer – and what activities present obstacles – can help you develop a routine you can stick to. For example, in sunbelt states, outdoor activities are better saved for early mornings or after dusk. Hilly locales provide great opportunities for hiking and walking – but only if you have already achieved the stamina needed to tackle them safely. This weekend, challenge yourself to do some thinking about your town’s fitness-friendly points – geography, outdoor and indoor offerings, climate, hours of daylight and safety statistics. Use what you learn to build a solid routine. Bonus point: Next time you travel, do the same for your destination. _Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine. _

    In Laramie we have mountain ranges on both the east and west side of town. It is my goal to hike in one or the other at least twice a month during the spring, summer, and fall
