Banish weeds with water

Sounds unlikely, right? Not when you use a kettle of boiling water. Simply pour a thin stream directly on top of unwanted plants and you’ll kill them without using any harsh chemicals. For weeds with especially deep roots, like dandelions, try digging out a bit of the top and pouring the boiling water onto the remaining root. The next time you’re tending your garden, challenge yourself to use this environmentally-safe alternative to chemicals.

I love this idea of boiling water, I’ll try it tonight.

Once it stops raining here and dries up a bit, I’ll give this a shot

Someone told me that bleach also works, but if you want to go chemical-free this is a great alternative. Will have to try it !

Not that I mind picking weeds, it gives me time to meditate. Sometimes, there is just not enough hours in the day to get everything done so I will definately give this a try.

I always heard that salt water used from a squirter bottle would have the same effect as a toxic poison. It will not discrimenate between grass, weeds or trees, but will kill weeds in a walk or area where you can get a fine stream of this liquid to hit it’s intended target.

Thanks for the salt water tip. I will try that on the back pathway. Today is the day. I have emptied my first pot of hot water on the weed field growing up front that will someday be a patio. I have more water boiling. I will post again when something happens (or not):)

ok, if you are looking for a quick fix this is not it. It did work. It took about a week to start to kill the weeds I poured the hot water on. We had alot of rain in the last week, so I am not sure if that kept the hot water from working or not. Either way, I would use this method again. I would come up with a better way of pouring the water. I just poured it directly from the pot I boiled it in. A little tricky for the smaller patches.
