Registered dietitians, also called nutritionists, can help you design a healthy eating plan that works for your lifestyle and schedule. Or, if you like reading and doing research on your own, you can also design your own eating plan by checking out a few books from the library. lux,
One way to get more water in your diet is to drink tea (if you like tea!) There are so many different kinds of teas our there- black, green, white, red, herbal that I’m sure you’ll find one that you like. You can even sweeten tea with Stevia, which is all natural and very sweet like sugar (I don’t recommend it in black tea, though) The brand that I buy is called SweetLeaf Stevia and it has a little boost of fiber in it.
If you are trying to eat more fruit an easy way to do that is to have a piece of fruit with every meal, even if it’s a small piece. Eventually you will get so used to eating it that it will feel strange not eating fruit! Good luck with everything! -

lux,
I know what you mean by a sad slumber. But I got out of mine and i know you can too. I give myself little rewards for making good exercise/food choices. For example, I like to listen to my fav comics while using the stationary bike..it makes me happy and takes my mind off of worrying about when I’ll be done. Or if there is a book I really want to read, I will only allow myself to read it if I have completed my exercise to do list. Good Luck!

I have to agree with Nicholelund. I grew up eating junk food all of the time. My family ate semi-healthy meals but in between meals, we were huge snackers and I guess because we were not overweight, we did not think twice about it. When I got to high school I did a report on nutrition and ever since I have been a health food nut! Now the junk foods I used to eat gross me out! Cheese curls, chips, white cheddar popcorn and poptarts are all disgusting to me now even though I used to eat them all of the time. Every once in a while you can get a craving but if you eat just a little bit of the junk food you crave, you’ll feel sick to your stomach. I think it’s because when you eat healthy all of the time you feel so much better all over- better than you ever felt eating junk food. When you go back to the junk food, you remember how you used to feel and immediately want to stop.
I wish everyone on this page good luck! You can do it!!!!!!!!

I am working very hard to lose weight and adopt a healthy life style. I have started working out almost every day and I eat Kashi cereal for 2 meals a day almost every day. I love the choices and my favorite thing is to mix a bowl of cereal with a little yogurt and some fruit. It’s absolutely delish!!

As a dietitian, I can tell you that having solid and credible nutrition information really helps in your battle to manage your food choices. I love chocolate, especially when I’m pregnant and should be making better choices. Experiment in the kitchen bringing together the flavors you love with healthier ingredients, you may surprise yourself and come up with something great! Oh, and it’s OK if you don’t love everything healthy-I grew chard one year and had to choke it down-no more chard in my garden! Good luck and if you still struggle, find a dietitian, they’ll work with YOU and YOUR goals to achieve success.

I am in college, and it is impossible to pass the dessert table without getting something. I will limit myself to one treat per day, preferably with nutritional value (like with fruit or frozen yogurt)

We have increased our intak of fruits and vegatables this summer, by joining a CSA (Community Suppoted Agriculture) program. We pay so much each week to a local farm and they deliver a box of fresh, seasonable, organic vegatables and fruits to our doorstep. Because we hate to throw food out, our intake of vegatables has increased as we work to go through the box that we’ve been given. The CSA takes care of variety as the vegatables in the box are somewhat different from week to week. It’s also been fun, as we learn to use vegatables we would have never bought for ourselves form the store. Our best tip of the summer, grilled mixed vegatables on the BBQ – YUM!

I have been doing research on my own and been dumbdounded by the amount of credible research out there about fruits and vegetables. If most of you are like me, it will be news to you that eating 7-10 servings of raw fruits and vegetables daily and consistently lowers your risk of almost every disease known to man. I was in shock at this, I thought you just got cancer and just had strokes, I had absolutley no idea that 85% of it was my diet therefore preventable!!!! I challenge ALL of you to start eating more fruits and vegetables today. Build up to the 7-10 but start now!

For dinner, I eat a delicious KASHI meal, and for breakfast, yogurt or organic oatmeal with skim milk and a piece of fruit. Lunch, whole wheat pita with lean meats and lots of veggies with hummus as a condiment. Yum!

I am “Kashing” in on the quick and easy nutrition of Kashi bars, cereals and snacks. There is no deprived feeling, because these offer outstanding taste, and the fiber makes me feel full longer.

I love Kashi cereal to help with cravings. It tastes great and has sooooo much good stuff in it. I exersize regularly, that helps alot with my sugar cravings. I am less likely to binge if I think it through first. I just remind myself of the plan. I certainly don’t deprive myself, that has never worked for me. I do try to make the most of my choices. I love dark organic chocolate with fruit and nuts. It’s expensive so I only eat a small piece at a time. That satisfies the real crave monster (pms and such). I take hemp powder in the morning to get my fiber intake off to a great start. I find if I stay away from the bad carbs and sugars to begin with I crave them less.:)

As a nurse, I can council others on their eating habits, but not myself! I know what I need to do and in the past I have planned out weekly menus, lost weight, felt better…time to get back on the healthy bandwagon. As others, sweets and carbs are my downfall….

I am fortunate because I work with a nutritionist on a regular basis. She sets up a meal plan for me to follow, including what to eat, how much and even when to eat it. As I am a recovering anorexic and bulimic, I can not seem to follow it! I have no idea why – it seems as though there is something in my brain blocking me from success in this area. I am hopingthat by posting this, I may receive the public support necessary to complete this goal.

Change is hard at first because what we are used to eating is second-nature; we do not even think about it. But I want this change to become the new me; that I eat healthy. I want to make the right decisions.
I have trouble with sweets too. When my cravings for the chocolate cookie hit me hard I pick up an apple and walk away from the kitchen. As funny as that sounds, it works for me! Blueberries are delicious! -
You deserve the best life possible. Keep a strong mind and the rest will follow. I have lost 65 lbs in the past year by making changes in my eating habits. I did not make all the changes at once, but the results are worth the effort. I feel healthy, physically and mentally. You can gain the same control with goods habits as well as bad. I say “be good”. Good luck.

I cannot digest sugar or heavy carbs. I crave them however. Especially when I’ve been on a good solid diet of basic foods, simply cooked. So, when I indulge, I get foggy, fall asleep at any time of the day, get aches and pains. Why oh why do I do this to myself. Oh to gain self control over that which hurts me.

I just saw a picture of myself from my vacation. I’m overweight and feel lousy. For 24 hours I will be avoiding sugar and dairy and eating healthy meals. I need to set a good example for my kids. Please wish me luck!
