Local park departments are a good place to start. It seems that once you start looking, there are ample opportunities to get involved in clean ups or other community beautification projects. I recommend Tree People (treepeople.org) which is based in Los Angeles. You just have to show up to one of their scheduled planting events – they bring the training, the tools and the trees!

I’ve wanted to do something like this, but wasn’t aware of who to contact. I’m going to give my local parks department a call!
