Grow your own herb garden

Fresh herbs are not only a great way to add interesting flavors to your meals, they’re also packed with nutrients. When you have them readily available, you can quickly toss them into your favorite dishes.

During the next six months, try growing a few of your favorite herbs either in your garden or in a small window box.

I love fresh herbs. Once you try them you will want to grow your own.

I’ve grown herbs for the past two years. I love watching a little seedling turn into an edible full grown plant.

Today I started 32 precious herbs. Has anyone had luck starting Rosemary from seed? I know they like light, but also cool nights. They are considered an evergreen in the south, I am from Michigan, they are a tender perennial here. Not had luck in the past from seed. Am I missing something?

I have cheated a little. I am allergic to dirt and can’t plant in the normal way.
Some friends of mine have bought an Aero garden for me and it has 7 herbs in it. I started it 2/08/08. I enjoy waking up every day and seeing and smelling my fresh herbs in my kitchen.
Experimenting with them in cooking has been a blast! I have beem watching cooking shows and gotten bolder at trying new things.
My husband is a heart and kidney patient complicated with diabetes. Our diets are very restrictive considering my allergies. Everything has to be made from scratch. Growing my own herbs is saving me money at the grocery store and putting a lot more flavor into our lives.
The best thing, with the garden being in my kitchen, I get to see it grow daily and this gives me great satisfaction!

My garden continues to grow beautifuly! I love the smells of the fresh herbs in my cooking. They add a real body to sauces i make from scratch.

I have recently moved and am in the planning stage of my new garden. This one will be complete with a water feature as well as culinary and medicinal herbs.

My daughter and I planted dill, sweet basil, chives, and cilantro about 2 weeks ago. So far so good….can’t wait until we can use them.

I live in an apartment, but my basil, parsley, and chives are sprouting in the window. In fact, the basil needs repotting already.

I also have an herb garden but it probably doesn’t get near enough sun. I have basil, thyme, oregano, chocolate mint, sage, spearmint (which I have planted in the container as it is very invasive), chives, rosemary, chamomile, parsley, germander, and maybe one or two more which I can’t recall right now.

flyingwpd: I would plant anything that you think you might like. Do you drink tea? How about some nice Chamomile? There are websites out there that will tell you exactly how to turn your herbs into a delicious beverage. Chives are very easy to grow and are one of the first things to pop up, you shoudl give them a try as well. Don’t be afraid to experiment, step out of your box, you’ll have more herbs in no time at all—Good Luck!
