Tune-in to your natural hunger cues

It’s easy to eat before your body tells you it’s hungry. And even when you feel hunger pangs, sometimes it’s just your body telling you it’s thirsty. (Did you know that when you’re thirsty, your tummy grumbles?) For the next 24 hours, keep yourself well-hydrated and wait to feel those hunger cues. You just might find yourself eating less.

Keeping myself hydrated is a problem as I am rarely thirsty unless I am working out. Although I think my body requires fewer fluids than most people. Is that possible? Sometimes I can go a day and only drink 1 cup of coffee in the morning and nothing else and I am never thirsty.

Sometimes, though (just like the Challenge says), instead of feeling thirsty, your body will give you ‘hunger pangs’ to tell you you’re dehydrated.

There are some great calculators online that will give you a good idea about how much you should be drinking according to your weight and activity levels. Here’s one to get you started:

The best advice I was given is to drink half your weight in water ounces. For instance if you weigh 120 you should drink 60 ounces of water per day. Try it.

I love water. I drink 7 glassful of water daily. if you do not like the taste of water, you can add lemon, lime, or orange, just squazse it into your glass of water. Fabalous drink! come on and drink 7 glassful of water daily with me.

I try to make a habit of filling my water bottle in the morning while I am waiting for my PC to boot up. Keeps me hydrating and also helps me remember to get up and stretch more often.

I have found that sometimes I think I want to eat something bur if I drink 10-12 oz. of water the desire to eat can be delayed quite awhile.

I’m not a water person at ALL!!! It’s a challenge for me to get any down. However recently I’ve began to fill three 23 ounce bottles of water per day and drink them throught the day while sitting at my computer. So far so good, I’ve been able to get them all down, but it has to be ice cold. After a few days it became less and less of a challenge. However, I have trouble consuming water at home, as I’m not really ever thirsty. Before I started doing that, I would only drink around 20 ounces of fluid a day, if that. If I can do it, anyone can…so let’s drink up!!!

I found the Lipton Green Tea to Go packages good for helping drink enough water. It tastes good and enables me to drink the amounts of water I need. I don’t use the Crystal Light because I don’t like the Aspertame, and the Lipton uses Splenda, which for the time being, is thought to be better. Try it and see if it helps.

I was told by a trainer at my local YMCA that waiting until your hunger pangs set in is unhealthy. She told me that once your hunger pangs set in it is too late, your metabolism has already begun to slow down for the day because your body is getting ready for starvation mode. So I find that drinking a healthy amount of water decreases those pangs, and makes it where you can understand your body enough to know when you’re ready to eat before those cramps come on, but at the right intervals.

Also a word of advice to Shelby.. the more water you drink, the more you’ll find your body becoming dehydrated without it. If you force yourself to drink more, you’ll eventually thirst for it regularly enough.

I’m working hard at trying to drink alot of water during the day. I’m getting atleast3 or more 16 oz. bottles of water in me a day. That’s better than I ever did before. My Doctor said it will help with my trying to loose weight too. I do have a problem with my what I think are hunger pangs. I also eat out of bordom and don’t know how to control that. I think I’m hungry, but I know I shouldn’t really be at the time. My Doctor said to drink more water, that it would help control my hunger, but I seem to feel more hungry when I drink water. That just be me and confusing hunger with bordom. I can just keep trying…

i am over 40 and have found i can no longer eat everything i want without gaining weight, i am going to challenge myself to drink at least 6 glasses of water a day and see if this helps control my hunger, and my weight.

I eat because I love food and I’m always interested in trying new things, even if I’m not hungry. I need to work to recognize hunger and eat on a more regular schedule so I’m not eating every time I’m bored or have the opportunity.

Whenever I don’t want to drink water or I’m tired of it I drink something thats more of an indulgence, like sugar free hot cider or tea which is practically just flavored water with around ten calories of less. This really helps me to feel satisfied so I don’t feel hungry again too soon. I really look forward to my cider :) You should try it.

Getting enough water is the biggest challenge for a lot of us. But thankfully I like water and don’t mind it. It is only a matter of remembering to grab some water!

i know i never drink enough. i’m at work or home and feel a little thirsty but just sit there and ignore it. if i actually have the water ready, i am much more likely to drink it though. i tend to snack instead of drink and i really need to change that!
