Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

Anyone who remembers being a kid recalls the pure pleasure of running free. For exercise, few things beat a jog: It’s free, it can be done anywhere at any time, and it’s highly effective at improving cardiovascular health and maintaining a healthy weight. If starting a routine seems intimidating, start small, alternating jogs with walking. Today, challenge yourself to go for a quick run around the block…or farther if you’re feeling up to it. Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine.

I have found a new way of living. Jogging and speed walking…gives your body a great cardio workout. I have just completed a 13.1 mini marathon and loved it. I can’t wait for my next one…

I remember as a kid my sisters and I would chase fireflies out in the front yard. We would be barefoot in our sundresses and tearing through the dirt with abandon.

I try to run a couple of times a week now, but it’s honestly not as fun anymore.

Not exactly running but I am brisk walking at work twice a day in a circuit around the parking lot. 2 10-minute walks. And wearing a pedometer…it feels good to see those steps add up each day.

I do my walks when I am feeling sleepy and having a hard time concentrating at my desk. The walks really help and hopefully are getting my metabolism going also.

I just started walking a week ago. I walk a 1/2 hour everyday and feel great each time I go. I am hoping that the combination of walking and eating Kashi will get me back in shape!

Before October of last year I did not like running. One day I decided to challenge myself and while my clothes were in the washing machine I went for a brief run. I was so exhausted after 10 minutes. Nowadays I run from 30 min to 1:30min. I have completed 5Ks, a 10 miler and my ultimate goal is to run a marathon in October of this year. Everything is within our reach! :)
Today I went for a brief 5K trail run.

My goal to get back in shape and lose 5-10 pounds. I want to continue being the cross-country runner i was. I believe eating kashi, working out, running and walking will help me get back in shape.

I’m just trying to start running again. A few years ago I used to run a lot but I left it as I wanted to gain some weight. Now I’m starting all over again, little by little, 20 mins on the treadmill at the gym everyday, or running in the open on Saturdays…

And you know what? I’m loving it!

I like running during lunch break. But I’m hoping to hear any suggestions any one may have on the best foods to eat after a lunchtime run that will help avoid the mid-afternoon sleepy feeling that comes after a good hard run. Any suggestions?

I run pretty much everyday. Sometimes I do sprints between telephone poles. It’s a great way to put extra “umph” in the metabolism. To the poster who gets the post-run sleepies: I usually eat something with a lot of protein, like natural peanut butter or a hard-boiled egg (if you like them).

How do you learn to love something you get so frustrated with?

Gosh, I remember that I loved to run when I was a kid! But now that I’m much, much older I don’t know if I CAN run anymore. I just started a walking program. My friend and I walk 3 miles. It takes us about 45 minutes to an hour. She’s walked when I’ve skipped a day of walking. So, my challenge is to walk that 3 miles every day — and who knows one day I may even get to try running again.

For those of use who are a little older (and have creakier joints) jogging in a pool will take some of the strain off of old joints.

I have recently started running (Dec 08) and love it. I run 3-4 times a week but can still only endure a mile. Does anyone have tips on how I can build up my distance? Also, I have changed my way of eating and have lost 13 pounds!!!!! Go Kashi!!!!!!

I’ve decided that I want to train to run a 5K. I’ve never been much into exercise and I am not a runner but I’m always amazed by the runners that I see out there so the other day I was thinking…why do I tell myself that I can’t run? There is no reason why I can’t do it. So I decided that I would start really slow and start a training program until I can run 5K. Today was my first day….walk 6 min, run 1 min, repeat 3x with a 10 min warm-up and warm-down walk. 3x a week, with an increase of a min in the jogging every week. It was great and I’m excited at the prospect of actually being able to run for 30 min!
