Avoid a workout rut
Adding variety to your regular workout routine is more important than you might think. New activities not only keep you interested and motivated, they also challenge your muscles work harder to adapt to new activities and motions. This, in turn, might even increase your metabolism.
Today, plan out your exercise routine for the week making sure to include several different activities. If you walk all the time, plan on integrating a minute or two of sprinting into your walk to get your heart rate up. Or if you use machines at the gym regularly, try some free weights. Whatever it is, surprise your muscles.
Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine.
I was just thinking about this yesterday. I decided to buy a treadmill because I am getting bored with the elliptical machine. And I have been using free weights, just need to use them more. Can’t wait till spring to go biking and running!
After struggling with burnout due to years of slaving away under high expectations during my years of competitive running for several years, I’ve considered finding a lower-intensity, much more enjoyable way to stay fit and active. Today I invented a new sport for myself called “trotting,” which is a mixture of easy, bouncy jogging interspersed with occasional walking, leaping, and skipping. Although it was very hard to do, I decided to throw away the “no-pain-no-gain” attitude that I’ve harbored for so long. It’s going to take a while to adjust to this new approach, so please support me!
I’ve increased weights on several of my workout equipment at the club, plus added a new one that works the total leg and butt. This is a tough workout, but I know I’m going to like the results!!
I love changing up my work out! I am trying to get to the gym every morning (I hate getting up earlier then I have to so it’s a challange). I switch between cycling, the elliptical and the treadmill. I need to get more weights in my work out but I’m working up to that…
