Clean your refrigerator coils
You’ve probably never heard about this energy saving tip before. How do you do it? The first step is to go to your local hardware store and buy a coil-cleaning brush. Next, unplug your refrigerator and move it away from the wall. (It’s a good idea to invite a friend over to help.) Now, use the coil brush to loosen the dirt and then vacuum the dirt away. Experts recommend doing this twice a year to keep the coils nice and clean. This practice can help you can cut as much as 6% of your refrigerator’s energy consumption. Considering that the refrigerator uses more electricity than any single household appliance, that’s a pretty substantial savings.
This week, find a friend to help you with this task and challenge yourself to complete it.
