Say hello to people in the grocery store

Some people do this all the time. They talk to the cashier. They chat casually with people in the deli department. Basically, they aren’t worried about being rebuffed because they practice being friendly with everyone. While some people respond positively to them, others don’t. But they don’t take it personally.

Other people, however, are uncomfortable with talking to anyone in public. It has a lot to do with where you live (some cities are more friendly than others) and how extroverted you feel.

If you’re uncomfortable being friendly to strangers, challenge yourself to say hello to someone at the grocery store. Make an effort to overcome your shyness and build your self-esteem.

Yes….I went to several people in the store. I simply said hello and I hope your day is going well. 2 people started a conversation. Kind of felt a little strange but got a good recipe out of the deal.

I can remember my Mom, many years ago, reminding me to say “Hi’, “good morning”, to people I pass on the street. I always try to do this, some people look like I am crazy but, it makes me remember to be nice to people, and my Mom. In fact recently while walking my granddaughter to school and we passed the crossing guard, I reminded her that it would be nice to say good morning and to thank the person, and was happily surprised to see that she now does it always. In the past she would always respond to them but did not initiate the welcome.

I went to the grocery store to buy ingredients to bake a quiche. The lines ended up being unusually long but it was a fun experience chatting with fellow shoppers.
