Set goals for the year ahead
Looking forward to a successful new year is a lot more than just following through on a New Year’s resolution. It’s about setting tangible goals for yourself and marking your progress along the way. Plotting small daily and weekly achievements towards larger life goals can really help you feel a sense of accomplishment.
Today, sit down and take an inventory of your mind, body, and spirit. Note the things you’d like to improve. For example, if you are dissatisfied with your job, write that down. Or if you feel rather bored by your day-to-day life, make a note of that too. Wherever you’d ideally change, be honest about it and make your list.
Next, brainstorm ways of improving these parts of your life. Want to change your job? Perhaps you can take a professional development class or start networking with people in another field that interests you. Dissatisfied with the state of your health? Think about exercising a couple times per week or making small incremental changes to your diet.
Finally, make a commitment to yourself about doing some of the items on your list with the goal of changing your circumstances in the year ahead. Write them in a calendar and mark your progress.
It’s exciting to start a new year. This exercise will really help you take a positive first step.
Life is set on a seven year cycle – This is my year to start and make significant changes in my life – 2008 is the beginning of a new cycle in my life – so I am challenging my body, mind and soul to a progressive and life long change. I am setting small goals with large changing factors. If I can get through these in the next 2 months the longer and bigger goals will follow.
Do some type of exercise, 1 hour, at least 5 days a week….7 days is even better. Eat healthier and increase daily fiber.
I am determined to eat more natural food to assist in my weight loss goal of 100 pounds over the next 2 years. I know I will be taking baby steps…but I have to keep my eyes on the bigger picture.
It has taken me a log time to come to grips with ….focusing on the day I am in….like the movie quote….There may come a day when the hearts of men may fail them, but it will not be this day! ....this is not the day all things end….we go forward loving our families and friends and being thankful for them….and who are and to be excited for the days to come.
