Check your showerhead

By Kashi Read more daily challenge, eco-friendly, energy savers, and frugal living
Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

Today, challenge yourself to test your showerhead and find out whether you could be saving some serious water by installing a low-flow model. Here’s how: • Put a bucket into your shower and fill it with 2.5 gallons of water. • Mark the water level. Then empty the bucket. • Put the bucket under your shower stream and turn it on full-blast. • Time the flow for one minute. • If the bucket fills past the 2.5 gallon mark, your showerhead is not low-flow.

I first wipe the shower head with white vinegar on a wash cloth. Then I look for calcium build up and poke it with a bobby pin or paper clip. Then I warm up some white vinegar in a bowl and soak the shower head in it for 2 minutes then turn on the shower to clean it and it runs perfect :) If it doesn’t, try it again; it works every time.

I’ve been using a shower head that you can adjust the water flow each time you use the shower. It especially comes in handy when you shave and want to lower the fog or steam in the shower.

I just had to test my shower head and turns out that I do use a water saver shower head ! The way I just used the water from both , measuring the water and when I tested my shower head , in the washing machine since I used cold water to measure with and I save on my power bill by using only cold water for my washer.

Sorry, man! I tried this for awhile, but had to take the saver out – I’ll save in other ways. Takes too long to rinse shampoo and conditioner out of my hair. Also, I have FMS and need the hot flowing shower to ease overall body pain.

BTW – The Green Fairy got me when I took the saver out – I fell off the side of the tub and broke my ankle. So I guess you could say I paid it forward?

You should also remove your shower head on a montly basis to make sure that all the build up from hard water is removed so the water will flow better.
