Although you might not associate holiday parties with healthy food, it doesn’t mean you can’t sneak some better-for-you options into your spread. There are lots of wholesome recipes and finger foods that are tasty and will please your guests. Here are just a few options: • Casseroles with whole grains, legumes, or veggies • Cheeses, lean meats, and fish served alone or with whole grain crackers • Fruit trays or fruit salads • Veggie trays served with low-fat or nonfat dips and spreads • Low calorie beverages like mineral water and wine spritzers • Light desserts served in bite size pieces • Set out smaller plates to encourage smaller portions If you’re planning a holiday party this season, challenge yourself to do a little planning to serve wholesome foods instead of the standard fare.

I love making recipes for the holidays that are healthy and delicious. Every party I go to I’ll bring a veggie tray so that there is something good for me to snack on.

During the holidays I feel as though I need to tape a sign on my 2 yr. old daughter’s forhead that says please only give me wholesome, healthy and 100% real foods. It’s sad that we live in a world where most just assume that everyone eats basically anything with no care about it…and it’s worse when they do it to other people’s children. The most hurtful thing is when they will ask you to give something to your child right infont of her (or him) and then make you as the parent look bad for saying no…and not only do they just do that but then they’ll have to say something like..”but it’s christmas ..or it’s just for this one time” totally disregaurding the fact that you already told them your answer and that you should not over-ride a parent’s good decision, especially right inront of the child!...Well the holidays are much more meaningful than that no matter what your beliefs are…and If I bought my daughter fast food 3 times a week for lunch people would probably say…oh i understand life can be hectic or they are worse things you can do to a child…or you only live once…but when you feed your child real, healthy foods on a regular basis…they think you’re a Hitler or something and try making you feel bad about it. The reality is that besides actually beating and screaming at your kids, providing them an unhealthy lifestyle IS the worst thing you can do to them and if you only live once then you should treat your body well so you can live it to the fullest! We eat because it is what we need to do to survive..not because it’s supposed to be our only means of happiness…Kashi just happens to make healthy stuff taste good, along side the vast variety of stuff the earth makes for us. People should focus on other things that make them feel good and happy. Sorry for the venting..and if you have any good ideas as to what should be said or done when it comes to these people PLEASE let me know…do they just not stop?...cuz I’ve tried everything…it’s sad that you can’t even trust the child’s own family members when you’re gone because you;ve found out by other means that they are giving her stuff behind your back!!! AHHHHH!!

I’m having a Holiday Potluck Dinner on Saturday… Let’s see if I can persuade guests to bring healthy options. What I make will definitely be good for you!

i thought to make coconut milk jello for our company potluck as a way to provide a sweet fruit dessert that everyone will enjoy. Now I am thinking I’ll research using gelatin and stevia, instead of regular jello, to reduce sugar as well….
