Know your fish

By Kashi Read more daily challenge and research
Challenge Yourself for: 24 Hours

Many species of fish are on the verge of extinction. And countless more are filled with toxins such as mercury and PCBs. All of these factors can make eating fish confusing for healthy, environmentally conscious consumers.

Today, make an effort to dispel your confusion about the fish you should be eating (or avoiding). Learn about healthy, sustainable fish and share your research with everyone here. (The Environmental Protection Agency’s Fish Advisories page is a great place to start.)

Hi Bevon17 – I think you’re referring to our recent commercial talking about a free sample at Kashi.com. You can sign up for a free sample at http://www.kashi.com/healthier_year/sample/select. For coupons, make sure you’re signed up to receive our e-newsletter (http://www.kashi.com/newsletters) as we often announce new coupons in these emails.

Surprisingly too many do not realize that many popular fish, such as tilapia, contain omega-6’s. Might as well eat a slab of bacon!

From now on, I will remove the skin from salmon before I cook it.

EDF.org is a great site to learn about what fish to eat whose harvesting wont destroy the environment. Answered my question about wild vs. farm raised salmon. Very helpful!

Why does the website not mention that Kashi is now owned by Kelloggs, which is hardly an environmentally friendly/organic company????

You may be interested in having a look at the “Meet Us” area of our website, which includes a section that outlines our history and includes more information about Kashi’s relationship with the Kellogg Company. You’ll find that here: http://kashi.com/meet_us/our_history.

As directed by the site editor, I checked out the information re: Kellogg ownership in the ‘Meet Us’ section. “As a leading natural brand focused on positive nutrition, Kashi caught the eye of the Kellogg Company, who was looking to expand its brand portfolio.” Hardly enlightening. Neatly avoids directly saying that Kellogg has ownership or exactly what that entails.

And….no surpise that a year has passed with no response to this. Come on guys, Kelloggs uses genetically modified seeds from Monsanto – this Kashi “healthy” front became a joke when you let kelloggs take you over. The least you could do is be transparent about what it actually means. I’d trust you more if I knew more about the relationship. Since I don’t, I’m done with Kashi.

Monterey Bay Aquarium has a great Website with lots of info. They’ll even send you a pocket guide to seafood selection.
