Eat 5 today
Most of us know that it’s a healthy habit to eat 5-9 servings of fruits and veggies every day, but many of us fall short of this goal. Why? Well, for starters, what’s a ‘serving’ anyway?
First of all, ‘5’ a day is a misnomer. It’s actually equal to 2 cups of fruit and 2½ cups of veggies. Basically, it comes down to eating a piece of fruit for breakfast and for dessert at dinner. Then, eating 2 ½ cups of veggies sometime during the rest of the day. Salads at lunch are great for this goal, as are veggie side dishes at dinner.
Today, make it a goal to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies. Here’s a great resource for approximating your servings.

Even on a good day, I have trouble fitting in enough fruit and veggies. I’m going to try to bring an apple or a bag of celery sticks to work for an afternoon snack. Over time, that ought to bump up my average!
I’ve been eating more than 5 a day. It’s easier to do than you think. Add them to your main dish for dinner, double your salad serving, pack a can of packed in juice fruit for a snack at work.
I never have enough trouble getting enough fruit… I usually get 5 servings of it alone, but I rarely get more than 1 serving of veggies a day. Any suggestions?
During the winter, my favorite way of getting more veggies is making soups, stews, and casseroles. Also, I’ve noticed that I often get more veggies that I think—like on my sandwiches (lettuce, onion and tomato all count!).
I found it easy to up my intake to 5 servings a day of fruits & veggies. I put away the junk food and replaced it with fruits & veggies.Takes getting used to but after a couple weeks i crave my healthy choices over junk food any day :)
