Wash your hands

Hand washing is such a simple way of staying healthy and avoiding illness, especially during cold and flu season. And it doesn’t take much time or any special equipment. Yet many of us forget to practice this basic form of hygiene.

Today, make a resolution to change your health habits for the better. Wash your hands whenever you:

• Use the bathroom
• Prepare food (both before and after)
• Eat
• Blow your nose
• Touch an animal
• Cough or sneeze
• Treat a cut or wound
• Touch a sick or injured person
• Handle garbage
• Insert or remove contact lenses
• Change a diaper

Hand washing is so important but it must be done correctly to count. Warm water, soap, and wash long enough. A good rule is to sing the alphabet or the Happy Birthday song to ensure that you are washing long enough.

As a registered nurse, hand washing is very important. If I canot wash with soap and water, hand sanitizers work well.

i’ve also been washing my hands more recently. it’s a funny story. I started drinking more water, so i started having to use the bathroom more and wash my hands more. my hands also got dried out and i started to get a bit of a rash from wiping them so much. I put a bottle of lotion by my sink to use after i wash my hands so now my hands don’t get as dry and my rash went away. i also avoided getting sick when everyone else in my class at school got it.

I am a dental hygienist so hand washing is critical in my daily job. I wash my hands before I see each patient, and carry those good habits home. I also do a lot of the cooking, especially with chicken, raw meat, and eggs and I make sure to wash my hands after handling such foods. I rarely get sick throughout the year, and I’m pretty sure its thanks to good hand-washing habits!

I work in an office and don’t come close to washing my hands enough! I always wash them after visiting the bathroom but am not good about doing it before eating, snacking, etc. since this is usually done at my desk / working area. I just got over a sinus and ear infection and have made a commitment to wash my hands and work are surfaces on a regular basis!

I work as a child abuse investigator for the Phila. Police Dept. and between the office work and interviews in many of the Philadelphia houses with young children, washing my hands many times a day is a must.

I am constantly washing my hands when I get the chance. I teach and am around germy kids all day. I feel as if washing my hands has prevented me from getting sick. Unlike many of my collegues.

I’m a nurse…I wash my hands constantly with anti-bacterial soap and use anti-microbial wipes in between.
