Turn down your refrigerator

Did you know that refrigerators account for about 20% of the average household’s electricity use? Today, cut down on your energy consumption by using a thermometer to raise your refrigerator temperature to the most efficient level.

Your refrigerator temperature should be as close to 37°F and your freezer as close to 3°F as possible. Also, make sure the energy saver switch is turned on.

Another great way to conserve energy is to check the gaskets around your refrigerator and freezer doors to make sure they are clean and sealed tightly.

Ask your local energy company for a refergerator / freezer thermometer (they usually have free ones for promotional events) leave them inside the ref /freezer. Mark the tempreture you desire with a marker so you can quickly check and see if the actual tempreture is what you have programmed – then you can manually adjust your controls to reach the correct energy saving tempreture.
