I’ve been vegan for 7 years. It is not as hard as you think! Whole Foods and Trader Joes has lots of vegan foods. Lots of not most of them are marked vegan. Some things think about:
-Being vegan has numerous benefits including but not limited to: health, environmental, animal welfare/rights etc.
-Lots of stores have a section for meatless foods many of wich are marked vegan.
-Eating out is not impossible. Lots of places have vegan options. Check the resturanst web site for ingredient lists, however many web sites or in shop menus come right out and say “vegan” or “no animal products”
With a little research I have found vegan options at Subway, Crazy Bowls and Wraps, Noodles, Smoothie King, and others
-Holidays are not a problem! Tofurky makes a delicious vegan “turkey” with gravy and dressing. Also Match makes options as well however I have yet to try Match. -

I have been vegan for a about 9 days now and so far so good. I have been putting soy milk in my coffee. The Dr. McDougall’s Asian meals from Whole Foods are really good and only have about 200 calories and go for 1.99. I have also eaten a lot of salad and the 365 day (also from Whole Foods) soups. I have had some vegan pizza (sauce, peppers, and tomatoes with no cheese.) I feel really good overall.

I have been a vegan for six years, and I have refrained from purchasing Kashi cereals because of the honey. Would it be possible to use agave nectar instead of honey?

I do vegan days a lot – sometimes vegan weeks go by now! :-D
I noticed a big difference, especially after cutting out milk, and then when I cut out all dairy I noticed a big change in the way I felt inside (apparently dairy makes my guts feel heavier?! who knew?). I have also moved to unsweetened soymilk and I even make my own soy yogurt sometimes! -
have been vegan for about a month now and all i receive is comments of how good my skin looks and how much weight ive lost plus i dont have any more digestive problems(the dairy was my problem). I love Mediterranean food and have found it easy to find vegan Mediterranean foods. Im so happy i switched over not only im i helping the environment but im helping myself. Do you know that the number one contributor to water shortages is?Livestock production…go to veganoutreach.com to learn more….

Amen!! I too live in the deep south, and am just beginning my Vegan journey. Any thoughts on how to explain this to my husband (a total “southern man”, meat& gravy, fried chicken, bacon, sausage gravy..) I’m not sure he’s going to be as easy to convince.

Hi all i am a voice of encouragement. I have been veggie for two years and Vegan for going on two months. I feel great physically and mentally and with products like The New Ranchero Beans frozen Kashi meal it is so much easier. I am a fan of the Black Bean and Mango and now Kashi added the Ranchero Beans. They are both great. Wow this sounds like a commercial but I am totally serious and excited that this company is giving more vegan options.

i did pretty well yesterday. had a sml amount of cheese on the salad I ordered in a restaurant but at home was good until I ate my fav. a kashi bar that had honey..so not vegan totally. I just finished a book called Skinny B—ch (bestseller) It is all about becoming Vegan so that is what my goal is. Have been cow/pig and lamb free for 14 yrs but oh do I crave Turkey and cheese. This will help. Kashi please make more vegsn products especailly on the go stick in your purse kinds..Love the pumpkin seed flax bars but now can’t have on vegan plan Help!!

It would be a lot easier if KASHI OFFERED VEGAN/VEGETARIAN MEALS!!!! hahaa … i am vegetarian and i was trying to search for tv dinners that were obviously organic and vegetarian.. but also used whole grains… most of the organic tv dinners STILL use white rice!! Kashi is the only one who uses whole grain brown rice! ridiculous! i wish Kashi had more options for us vegans/ vegetarians!

I went vegan in January 2008 and lasted 3 1/2 months. It was incredibly hard as animal products are in almost everything you eat. Vegan means no meat, no fish, no dairy, no eggs, no butter. It it is made from an animal you can’t have it. And forget about eating out! I found this to hard to continue and reverted back to vegetarian.

Did a no meat/dairy regimen for 4 years – it was the most amazing thing heatlh wise – then I changed back to a regular eating habit and did I definately see a change in my body and cravings. I am going to change back slowly – by no red meats, pork, low fat dairy products and follow up with bigger and better habits a s I go. I would like to hit this goal by mid year.

I’d like to try and go vegan but I can’t. I’d miss dairy to much. I considered switching to soy milk as an alternative but my husband is allergic to soy so thats out the window. Any other suggestions?

With all of the soy products out there it was relatively eay to go vegan and not feel llike I was missing out on anything. I even tried baking vegan – the egg replacer is fabulous.
