Did you know that eating or drinking something bitter helps your body digest better? Apparently, bitterness causes you to salivate, and the enzymes in saliva help your body deal with whatever is in your stomach. Today, try this challenge and see whether you notice a difference in how you feel after eating.

I tried pomigrate tea and a lemon in my water. I didn’t really notice a difference though. I don’t really eat a lot of bitter or sour stuff. So I think I will continue doing this just to change up my diet a little bit.

    OK, so it wasn’t bitter…

Yesterday as I finished microwaving my 2 bowls of GoLean oatmeal, the guys were trying to talk someone into eating an entire bottle of Heinz Sweet Relish. When it hit the $30 barrier, I was all in.

24 ounces later, I wasn’t feeling my best, but it was a decent profit for what I calculated was the equivalent of a Quarter Pounder… but no fat! basically just a bunch of sugar and pickles and 2 days worth of salt. It was worth it for $35, though. It’s pickles!

kbonomo, try a little Stevia to sweeten your coffee. It’s all natural and a little on the bitter side until you adjust to it’s flavor. Kind of how you first had to adjust to artificial sweetners.
    Also Stevis has zero calories.

I also ate a pomergranite, very good for you. They are in season right now. Or drink pomergranite juice POM makes a good one.

I have been snacking on Wasabi peas. They are spicy, which makes you salivate, so hopefully a good idea. I have tried dried ginger, but that stuff is not my favorite, hear it’s a good food for digestion.

lvkl41 – do you worry about the artifical sweeteners in the stir-ins? i don’t really know what they use. i’ve tried to cut out most artificial sweeteners except for one im my coffee each morning!

i’ve read elsewhere that having lemon in your water can help you feel fuller faster if you drink it before/with a meal. i forget how, though.

I need to drink more water also. I find that the stir ins (market pantry @ target or crystal lite) really help me drink more water during the day. For bitter, I wat a pomegranite. I love them!! And they are so good for you.

All of those, arugala, escarole, and swiss chard are on my no no list for my kidney’s. : ( I do drink lemon in my water though. And I know there are many more bitter foods in the kitchen. Time for a quest before work I guess!

I get an organic vege box every week and so we are eating a lot of bitter greens that a few years ago we wouldn’t even touch. So arugula, escarole and swiss chard and red kale is a regular part of our diet.

I always drink lemon or lime in my water as well. Plus, I eat bitter greens daily (raddicho, arugala, and escarole) in my salad mix. I also take dandelion burdock tinctures daily.

For the past 5 days when ever i want a snack or something sweet i have been eating a kashi cookie. Let me tell you what. I feel so much better after eating a dark chocolate kashi cookie vs a half box of another junk food. Its guilt free and i enjoy it more. I love the way i feel!! Thanks!!
