Walk with a pedometer
Did you know that the President’s Council on Fitness and Sports recommends you walk at least 10,000 steps per day? Although that sounds like a lot of walking, you probably walk more than you know. Getting a pedometer is a great way to figure out how close you are to the mark. This weekend, challenge yourself to go out and buy a pedometer. Then, learn how to use it so that you can walk with it during your daily routine.
Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine.
(We’ve given you 2 days for this Challenge to get a pedometer and try it out. When you log your progress, you only need to log as many – or as few – days as are applicable.)
I like walking but after work I am usually to tired to even think about taking my 30 minute walk. I am finding that if I push myself to do it I begin to feel more energetic after a few minutes. Then when I return home I feel as if I got my ‘second’ wind.
I really like breaking up my daily walks into small bite-size chunks. Some days I walk 10 minutes after breakfast, during lunch, and then after work. Other days I squeeze in 15 minutes here and there. I find it really makes walking easier if it doesn’t sound like a big effort!
It seems like I never have time, to actually get out and enjoy a nice walk. This will be a perfect challenge for people who have this same problem.
I walked a mile from my university dorm to the beach and it feels GREAT!!!

I purchased my pedometer last night and find that I am much more conscience of my steps than I have been. Hoping to get to 10000 today!
Wonderful. I’m getting a pedometer asap. I walk a lot and I agree that it’s a great form of motivation. Can’t wait to see how many steps I actually take.
