Strengthen your core

The area around your pelvis and trunk — your core — is where all the movement in your body originates. When you have a strong core, your posture improves, your back is protected from injury, and you have a more stable center of gravity. Today, take the first step toward building a stronger core by doing 3 sets of 10 sit-ups. Other ideas for fitting core exercises into your day: 1) standing on one foot while brushing your teeth, waiting in line, or blow-drying your hair, and 2) sitting up straight and lifting your feet off the ground while in your office chair.

Always consult a physician before starting any exercise routine.

I had to do this one just so I could have an excuse to stand on one leg while brushing my teeth.

I try to use a stability ball while watching tv to tone my abs, but have been slack as of late and it shows

Abs are the last thing I tend to work on so I’m excited for this challenge.

Wow, that was easier than I imagined it was going to be. I even got the little one to do the standing on one leg. She thought it was a fun game!

I sit on a stability ball while at work. I really notice a difference in my posture.

We just had our second baby in June, so this is timely :)

You know standing on one leg also helps for those who have gag reflexes as they brush their tongue. It tightens the muscles in your midsection that create that reflex. : )

I’m going to try this one. My core is not as strong as I want it to be. What a great challenge!!!

I do this regularly now after reading your tips (lifting legs off floor while sitting, etc). It’s great to do in meetings that drag on and on . . .

This seems like a great way to work on a problem area. I will start today.

I think I’ll Try this.
One question, what’s a stbility ball?

User_thumb
Posted November 07, 2007 at 02:54 PM

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I MUST DO WITH EVERY WAKING MOMENT. I HAVE MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS, AND MY GAIT IS AWKWARD AND HAS BEEN MISTAKEN AS A ‘DRUNK WALK’. SINCE I DO NOT INDULGE IN DRINKING ALCOHOL, IT UNNERVED ME FOR PEOPLE TO THINK I WAS DRINKING OR DRUNK BECAUSE OF MY AWKWARD GAIT. BY STRENGTHNING MY CORE, MY BALANCE AND SENSES ARE BETTER, AND I DO NOT STUMBLE OR FALL OR LOOK DRUNK ANY MORE.
I ALSO FIND THAT IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE DOING THESE EXERCISES BY STANDING OR LYING ON THE FLOOR, YOU CAN SIT AND DO CERTAIN STRENGTHENING EXERCISES BY USING YOUR COUNTERS IN THE KITCHEN , (TO PUSH OFF ON WHEN DOING CERTAIN ARM EXERCISES, AND FOR BALANCE.)

i have tried and loved the core secrets exercise. they also have shorter versions for if you don’t always have time to put in a full workout. The entire exercise is on a ball and a full core workout the entire workout, trying to stay stable onm the ball at all times.
