Reuse your coffee grounds
If filtered coffee is part of your daily ritual, don’t throw away those precious grounds just yet. - Soak them in water overnight and use the darkened liquid as a natural wood stain.

I work for Starbucks, and we are constantly finding ways to reuse the hundreds of pounds of grounds we go through a day! We have gardeners literally beating the door down to come and pick them up! All Starbucks have them available by the 5 pound bag, ask your barista today!

We put our coffee grounds in our compost pile outside, as we do for our fruit peels and vegetable parts we don’t eat. It’s good for the ground and doesn’t fill up the landfills.
I never would have imagined that I could use those for the smell of those onions or fish on my hands. I cook a lot of fish and onions, and I am always amazed how many hand washings it takes to get that smell off.

I have a good idea for the coffee I use, which is similar to everyone else’s ideas. I will put them next to the azalea bush in the front of my apartment and also use the coffee grounds as a spiritual offering.
After making my cup of coffee, I put some extra water in the pot and run a second cup through which I make coffee ice cubes out of. My daughter loves iced coffee and this way it does not get watered down with regular ice.
Great ideas – especially for the garden. Delighted to have a use for my grounds!
Tastes great and it’s good for you!
Always looking for a way to better my garden. Helpful advice.

I use my daily coffee grounds in a dynamic in-ground compost pit just outside my back door. I have big, fat worms and lovely dark rich soil that I use to fertilize my plants.
:-)
This post has definitely taught me some things I didn’t know before. My husband drinks coffee like it’s going out of style while I can leave it or take it. However, I usually just throw the coffee grounds away but now I’ll start to save them.
I love things that have more uses then just one.
I so agree!
After reading the comments I decided to use the daily coffee grinds after the coffee was brewed. I used it for my roses to get them prepped for the winter season. I put it down my kitchen sink. (I don’t know if is helping it to unclog but it did make my sink smell good)I will be trying it out next spring/summer when the ants show up to annoy me.
Works great with stinky hands!
I use coffee grounds to fertilize my azaleas and gardenia.

learning new things
I had no idea that coffee was useds for more than drinking
Also can be used as a fertilizer in plants!
I have used it as a scrub a few times. It temporarily smooths out the appearance of cellulite so I’ve tried it during the summer months.
Great reminder! I remember my Grandmother composting her coffee grounds. I just set out old coffee can to hold my used grounds. Will empty into garden when full. Great way to reuse coffee can too!
the grounds can be used to brighten brown hair by reheating and straining these grounds and giving you hair a final rinse. It really give your hair a nice pick me up.
Nice tip I will definitely be trying this one out!

good news for plant lovers and homes with ant problems. I’m sure to pass this on.
I remember my grandmother throwing used coffee grounds under her rose bush. I add them to my compost pile.
My mom always tossed coffee grounds in the sink. One plumber told me that this is one of the savest and cheapest methods to keep your pipes unclogged.
My bathroom sink is always clogging so I’ll definitely give this a try.
I have a special bin in my kitchen where I dump my used coffee grounds and tea bags. I add these to my rose bed outside and water in. No snails, or other pests, and my roses are BEAUTIFUL! I haven’t had any problems with blackspot this year either. :-)
Thank you for the comment about black spots. I will try this!! Thanks again.
Have an ant problem but with a 2 year old, don’t want to use anything that might harm her. Great idea! Will give it a try…and help with fall planting on bulbs!
Fabric can be soaked in used coffee grounds to “antique” it – the longer the fabric soaks, the darker it will become. Tie knots in the fabric to give it a realistic effect. One can also make the fabric spotted by rubbing the grounds into the fabric.
I am replanting my flower beds for fall flowers. I am adding coffee grounds to the soil before I plant.
I am going to try coffee grounds on ants. I wonder if it would work on aphids, too.
Used to feed worms
Made a border of coffee grounds along the patio door to keep the ants from coming in the house. I’m curious to see if it works!
This is something I’ve never heard of and can’t tell you how excited I am to learn this! I toss one 10 pot coffee pot filter full everyday and plan on now using these for my plants among other things!
I found it helps eliminate the odor from the garbage when thrown out. I put them in my compost. use them at the base of evergreens. put them in any left over coffee, add water to fill pot and toss around evergreens or plants.
Coffee grounds are good for clogged drains. Its good to keep your drains from clogging when they aren’t clogged also.
i even save my tea grounds. they work just as well in the garden and as a stain for wood.(especially on scratches)
Thank you for the tip to conceal stains on wood. It really worked. Great idea and natural.
I use coffee grounds for my plants and garden, but was unaware about using it in ant-infested areas. Can someone please tell me what effects the coffee grounds has on ants? A next-door neighbor has a tree/bushes that are crawling with ants and he refuses to cut the tree down! If the coffee grounds will help please let me know. Thanx!
Coffee grounds are also good to place at the roots of acid loving plants like azaleas.
If you have a Keurig you can also break open the foil and use the coffee grounds (are the cups recyclable???). Great for when you only need a little bit (like indoor plants) OR better yet, get the whole office involved and either collect theirs to use at home or in office or share the benefits and have them saving their grounds too!!!!
HAVE BEING DOING THIS FOR WELL OVER 3 YRS ADDING TO MY COMPOST. ALSO WORKS WELL SPRINKLING AROUND ROSES DIRECTLY
Every other day I am making a pot of coffee, and I hate having to throw away the grinds so, any ideas would be helpful.
I use grounds and egg shells together in my plants, but if you do this make sure you bury them under the surface, as it looks ugly on the top of the soil.
I’m starting a compost and have an avid coffee drinker in the house so it’s win-win!
