Make do without mayonnaise

Many summer–salad favorites rely on rich, creamy dressings that can be heavier than some of us want. To keep the flavor while losing the excess fat, challenge yourself to try some of the following no–mayo makeovers:

• Potato salad: Switch out mayonnaise for olive oil with vinegar or lemon juice.

• Pasta salad: Lose or reduce the mayo, add colorful veggies and fragrant herbs—bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, basil, and parsley fit the bill—and dress with a flax–oil–enhanced vinaigrette.

• Tuna salad: Low–fat mayonnaise or vegetable-based dressings paired with nonfat yogurt can substitute for full–fat mayo, while retaining creaminess. Boost flavor by blending in lemon juice or seasoned rice vinegar. Tip: Diced veggies will add crunch and flavor dimension.

Not fond of mayo, and the low/no-fat stuff is anathema, but there is no substitute for fresh hollandaise sauce with steamed asparagus and grilled salmon. Put olive oil and lemon on the salad, or a good full-fat yogurt dressing. Yum!

Greek yogurt all the way! Its great as a mayo, sour cream and sweet tooth substitute if you add a little honey :)

I hate mayo. So I like to replace it in recipes with greek yogurt. Much more healthy for you and at least in my opinion tastes much better! :)

I USE EITHER FAT FREE YOGURT OR FAT FREE SOUR CREAM IN PLACE OF MAYONAISE.
