Tips for Getting More Fiber

posted by Kashi Read more articles, cereal, digestive health, fiber, healthy eating, nutrition, and whole grains

Select a wide variety of fiber sources — from whole fruits to cereals there are a lot of choices.

  • Take it slow, and don't forget to hydrate. Increase fiber gradually while also increasing water consumption to prevent excess gas and bloating. Without adequate hydration, fiber can actually aggravate rather than alleviate constipation.
  • Pick whole grain foods with fiber instead of refined carbohydrates. Try the new whole grain products in your local store; the whole grain pasta is pretty good.
  • Begin your day with a fiber boost. Choose breakfast cereals with at least 3 grams of fiber per serving.
  • Pick high-fiber snacks when the midday munchies hit. Avoid high-calorie, high-fat and low-fiber vending machine options.
  • Load up on beans. Eat at least one serving a day.
  • Bake your own high-fiber goodies. Get creative and try some whole grain flours in your recipes.

I love tabbouhleh so I’m gonna try this fiber into my diet. I made some 2 days ago but my other half said it tasted underdone…what should I do to fix that when you aren’t actually cooking anything?

I add glucomannan fiber supplements to liquid based foods like yogurt and soup. It doesn’t alter the taste at all and expands in your belly creating a greater sense of fullness.

I add Trader Joe’s Flax seeds to salads and ground flax seeds with blueberries to my oatmeal in the morning. They are tasty, easy, affordable and add some really good fiber. Yumm.

try some of the fiber bars on the market, they have 35% of your daily fiber. The name brands are best but I am okay with the store brands. I have one every afternoon for a snack. I have Kashi GoLean every morning for breakfast. Just those 2 items contribute a very healthy amount to my diet.

I saw a recipe for fiber-rich muffins on the back of a box of Kashi cereal that I bought once. The box got tossed and now I can’t find the recipe again. Does anyone know of the recipe…I think it was on Good Friends cereal?
