The Mission Begins – Breakfast with our Founders

It had been nearly ten years since our founders, Phil and Gayle Tauber, had been involved at Kashi. So, we invited them back to share their original Kashi vision and story as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration.

When Phil and Gayle walked into the room, there were big smiles, excited faces and lots of energy. There were butterflies in some people’s tummies as they felt a little like adopted children meeting their birthparents for the first time.

What they shared was food for our souls. The secrets of their success are the foundations of Kashi’s dream and business principles:

We dream of a world where everyone embraces natural health.

We are people people

Simply put, we care. Phil and Gayle founded Kashi with the belief that good nutrition can change people’s lives. So they set out to give people healthy, honest alternatives to the artificial and highly processed foods on the market.

We are on a mission

Phil said it best when he addressed us. “It is indeed an honor to be here today to witness the phenomenal care, growth and nurturing of our original vision from its humble origins to this remarkable and vital going concern. We wish to congratulate each and every one of you for being chosen and choosing to carry on the work Gayle and I started, as you now hold in your hands a valuable asset whose future still looks bright, and with the love of its heritage and constant vigilance continues to provide the world with quality grain based foods and snacks.”

We are what we eat

Phil and Gayle believed in the power of their unique blend of Seven Whole Grains & Sesame so much so that they dedicated their life savings to spreading the health. And we’re grateful that they did! We love good, healthy, natural foods that taste great. We want to make healthy eating something you actually enjoy doing. Because when we eat well, we feel good, and we’re inspired to go out and do good.

We are grounded by our roots

Much like Phil and Gayle were inspired to live healthier by their new surroundings of coastal La Jolla when they moved here in 1983, we are energized by our closeness to nature and the bright, beautiful sunshine of Southern California. We think we live in the best place on earth. Dare we call it Kashitopia?

We measure success one bite at a time

When more people join us on the path to a naturally healthy lifestyle, we celebrate. Phil and Gayle echoed this sentiment: “We identified the type of lifestyle we wanted personally or wanted in the future, and communicated those wishes to our audience; that is, others who shared our vision of the future, or those who were already living it!”

It is a great privilege to work for a company like Kashi, surrounded by people who truly care for one another and about the health of the people who buy our products.

“Just wanted to let you know it was great to meet Gayle and Phil yesterday and hear their stories about founding and establishing Kashi. Their passion and perseverance was evident in the stories that they shared and they were both very inspiring.” — Heather, Finance

We feel very fortunate to have been founded by such visionaries — people who dared to dream of a healthier world and the boldness to make it happen.

What’s your vision for your life and life’s work? We’d love to hear from you!

I love Kashi because it is food that is nutritious and it tastes great; but, the main reason is because you see the passion behind the company. That this is a company that truly cares about the people who eat their product, and who really want to make this world a better place. I think working for Kashi would be my dream job!
