On an unusually warm November day, we went to perform a “LAK” — Little Act of Kashiness — at the local firehouse here in La Jolla.

The firehouse is located only 2 blocks away from our office, so Erin (who works in Sales), Sachiko (who works in Marketing), and I loaded up some Kashi totes with a variety of Kashi goodies — hot and cold cereal, GOLEAN® bars, TLC® Granola Bars, and TLC® Crackers. We decided to “hoof it” and walk the two blocks to the firehouse. As we were walking a firetruck sped by! Oh no! We wondered if all the firefighters would be off saving folks and no one would be there to accept our samples.

We went up to the door and rang the doorbell. After a few minutes a friendly firefighter came out. We told him we worked at Kashi, only a few blocks away, and it was our 25th Anniversary. We explained that to celebrate — we were giving back to the community by performing little acts of Kashiness — so we wanted to give the firefighters there some healthy, tasty and all natural food. He wasn’t sure what Kashi was, but he said if it tastes good — the boys’ll eat it! The 9 other firefighters that are part of that firehouse were out on a call, he explained. But they were sure to be stoked when they came back!

How do you support the folks in your community who protect and serve you?
